A Health Journey- It’s More Than Just Food

A little insight into my past:

  • Raised 10 miles out of town for most of my childhood.
  • Do not remember having any meal out of a box.
  • We had chickens, a garden and fresh raw milk.
  • We always had a home cooked meal, but there was the limited trips (an hour away) to Wendy’s. That was a very special occasion.

This was my life up until fourth grade. I was always active and persuade basketball in college. Being active and carbohydrate loading just came hand in hand.  I never started to look at what healthy was until 2006. I had found the love of my life and I moved to Las Vegas, from Montana. We made the commitment to get married and that is when it all begin. My husband had a $100 juicer and we would use this every so often but never truly understood what the juice was doing for our bodies. After we became engaged, we made a pact to get in shape for our big day. We were not obese but we felt we needed to tone up and trim down.

Let the steam train start gaining steam.
the sunfood diet success system A Health Journey Its More Than Just FoodWe always had a sense that there was more to life than just having a job, paying bills, having dinner and looking forward to retirement. So when we found a book by David Wolfe, The Sunfood Diet Success System, our world started to open up. We started learning about superfoods. These aren’t super-sized fries or sodas. Superfoods are a wide spectrum of foods that offer health benefits beyond the normal realm of nutrition. We learned about becoming “Raw Foodies.” Most might think this is eating all things raw, but it is actually where you are eating “living food.” Foods that are unprocessed and have the highest level of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc than its cooked counterpart. While reading this book, we started juicing and saw inspiring results. We were driven to learn more. We had so many questions.  Why were we experiencing so much energy? What is so great about our bodies not having to “work” to digest the food we ingest? What were others doing to keep their bodies running smoothly?  What are healthy supplements? What are micro-nutrients? What are GMO’s, MSG’s? What is the big deal about hydration? What are easy ways to exercise? What do thoughts do to the body? The questions started coming and the research began.

My journey was not about losing pounds or going on a diet. I wanted to learn the why, how, when, where and what when it came to becoming healthy. After two kids, 14 months between them, and gaining over 100 lbs total from my pregnancies, I am pleased with where I am at. I have never counted calories, nor do I look at a scale. Maybe  1-2 times a year, just for fun. I know I am going in the best direction for me because of how I feel. The fact I am not in any medications, I have energy to withstand two toddlers, hours in the kitchen, and very little sleep. I am looking forward to sharing with you, what I have learned. The ups and downs of trying new ways of eating and what is dramatically changed my health for the better.  A lesson I learned early on which has helped me greatly when it comes to things I have read, watched or tried: I take what works for me at the time and leave the rest behind.
